A U.S. jury in Florida has found four individuals guilty of participating in the 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse.
Moïse was killed at his residence near Port-au-Prince, with investigators linking the attack to a group of mercenaries, many of them reportedly from Colombia.
The trial of the four defendants lasted about two months. They were accused of planning the president’s assassination or kidnapping and of providing support to the operation.
Prosecutors argued that the group operated from Florida and had even discussed who might take power after Moïse was removed.
The defendants now face the possibility of life sentences in the United States, with sentencing to be decided at a later date.
Several other individuals have already been convicted or imprisoned in connection with the assassination case.
